The unquestionably unbeatable Roglič

12/03/2022

Five memorable moments of the 2021 Milano-Torino: the unquestionably unbeatable Roglič

Primož Roglič soloing over the finish line by the Basilica of Superga, after 189 km of racing, was the apex of the 2021 Milano-Torino.

The Slovene had been on his toes since Alaphilippe’s Deceuninck Quick-Step attacked with 70 km to go, taking advantage of a gust of wind.

Along the first ascent to Superga, he remained sheltered in the elite group, leaving the others go full gas. Along the second ascent, he waited a few moments before taking action when Yates attacked. When he did, however, it came so casual and easy to him that it became clear that anyone else was very unlikely to win that day.

And so it was. Along the closing ramp, after letting Yates pull away and waiting until his attack was over, he eventually went clear with a devastating acceleration.

Although the Briton had tried all he could, racing with all his body and heart, he had to settle for second. No bitter feelings, though, because at the 2021 Milano-Torino Primož Roglič was unquestionably unbeatable.
