Rho: Three Years at the Heart of World Cycling

05/03/2025

Just over two years ago, the town of Rho was barely a footnote on the map of international cycling. But since 2023, it has entered the scene in grand style, becoming the official start location of the world’s oldest Classic, the Milano-Torino. The Rho-Orbassano and Rho-Salassa routes shaped the 104th and 105th editions of Mi-To, and in 2025, the race will return to one of its most iconic finishes – the Basilica of Superga – while still kicking off from Rho.

The origins of Rho date back to Roman times, when the area was traversed by key trade routes. However, it was during the Middle Ages that the town truly began to flourish, thanks to its strategic position along the commercial corridors between Milan and Piedmont. Over the centuries, Rho experienced significant economic and social growth, becoming an important agricultural and industrial hub.

Today, Rho is best known for hosting Fiera Milano, one of the largest and most modern exhibition centers in Europe. Opened in 2005, this venue has played a major role in boosting the city’s economy, attracting visitors and investments from all around the globe. Rho also boasts a strong industrial heritage, with numerous companies operating in the mechanical, chemical, and technology sectors.

Despite its proximity to Milan, Rho offers plenty of green spaces where residents can unwind and enjoy outdoor activities. Popular spots include Parco dei Fontanili and Parco della Fiera, both ideal for walks and recreational sports.

The Rho railway station, served by regional and suburban trains, provides fast connections to Milan and other cities in Lombardy. Additionally, the Milan Metro’s M1 line links Rho directly to the city center, meaning that anyone in town who wants to witness the start of the Milano-Torino 2025 won’t even need to take their car!
