Milano–Torino 150th Anniversary: Events for Cycling’s Oldest Classic

    16/03/2026

In 2026, the historic Milano-Torino cycling race will celebrate the 150th anniversary of its first edition, held in 1876.

To mark this major milestone – alongside the race scheduled for 18 March, starting in Rho and finishing at the Basilica of Superga – a dedicated programme of cultural initiatives and local engagement activities has been organised.

Among the main highlights is a photographic exhibition celebrating the history of the race, on display from 2 to 18 March along the railings of the National Cinema Museum in Turin. A selection of historic images and front pages from La Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere della Sera retraces the different eras of the competition, from the pioneers of cycling to contemporary champions. The exhibition will remain open until race day and tells the story of some of the race’s most iconic moments through photographs and archival material.

The celebratory programme also includes the Cycling Forum on 17 March, a discussion event focused on the evolution of contemporary cycling. The initiative will bring together professionals, stakeholders and operators from the cycling world to discuss innovation, development and the future prospects of a sport that is increasingly central both in the sporting landscape and in the field of sustainable mobility.

Also on 17 March, a special Standing Dinner will be held: a networking event designed to bring together partners, institutions and leading figures from the cycling community in an informal setting. More than just a dinner, the event is conceived as an opportunity for connection and exchange within the broader celebrations of this historic race.

Cycling enthusiasts will also be directly involved through the Timed Climb to Superga, scheduled on race day. Fifty amateur cyclists will have the chance to tackle the famous Turin ascent, starting from Piazza Gustavo Modena and racing against the clock on one of the most iconic climbs in Italian cycling.

Exhibitions, discussions and sporting initiatives will accompany the race towards its 107th edition, turning the 150th anniversary of Milano-Torino into a widespread celebration of cycling’s history, culture and passion.
