Believing the unbelievable!

A scene like the one you’ll be reading about – the one we fortunately happened to witness last year – is quite unusual at the Milano-Torino.

In recent years, considering the features of the route, the race has generally been decided on the final twin ascents of Superga. Last year, however, some riders kicked off early, in the flat section, taking advantage of the wind. Not just any rider, but big guns like the reigning World Champion Alaphilippe, and Roglič, as you can see in the photo above, who were later joined by Pogačar and some of his team-mates.

With some of their closest rivals fading from the front, they dared and made a long-distance move. With over 40 kilometres to the finish, it was clear they didn’t stand a chance. They knew that it would sting their legs in the two following climbs. No matter. They went for it anyway, believing the unbelievable. That’s the beauty of sport. That’s the beauty of cycling.
