150 years of
Milano-Torino

Discover all the initiatives dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the Milano-Torino

In modern cycling there is nothing - absolutely nothing - that predates Milano–Torino.

Back in 1876, there wasn’t even a bicycle as we understand it today. Riders competed on high-wheelers with wheels measuring up to four metres in circumference. For the first edition only eight riders - then called velocipedists - took the start, and victory went to Paolo Magretti, a naturalist and explorer, after 10 hours and 9 minutes. It was the beginning of a story that is still being written. The race hasn’t always run smoothly, there have been several periods when it was not held due to organisational issues, but it has still reached 107 editions.

Along the way, through decades of Italian and world history, came the victories of Costante Girardengo, Fiorenzo Magni, Gianni Motta, Franco Bitossi, Roger De Vlaeminck, Giuseppe Saronni, Francesco Moser, Gianni Bugno, Michele Bartoli, Alberto Contador, Primož Roglič and Isaac Del Toro, just to name a few of the 90 riders who have claimed this race.

For 150 years, the road between Milan and Turin has told the story of cycling. And the story is far from over.
